I saw The Dark Knight yesterday, with my brother, at the AMC theaters in Gaitherburg. I almost do not wish to write a review, for fear that the movie is just so great that my words cannot adequately describe it. I highly recommend this movie, except maybe to young children, but then I think they’ll be watching it on AMC in the future. Continue reading “Movie Review: The Dark Knight”
Last night I attended a ‘bachelorette’ party for a childhood friend, which involved an outing over about a dozen women in their 30’s to see Mama Mia! at the AMC Rio Cinemas in Gaithersburg. Continue reading “Movie Review: Mama Mia + movie shows”
I purchased the Batman Gotham Knight DVD last week and recently watched it. I have not watched all of the special features yet, but I really loved the anthology of animated Batman shorts. There may be minor spoilers, but I have attempted not to give away specific details. Continue reading “Review: Batman Gotham Knight”
This past Saturday I saw Hellboy II: The Golden Army, at the AMC theaters at the Rio in Gaithersburg, with my younger brother. I will try not to give away plot spoilers in the review. Continue reading “Movie Review: Hellboy II: The Golden Army”
I saw Wanted yesterday at the Regal in Frederick. My brother had a date/meet-up with a friend to see another movie and needed a ride. Being forbidden from seeing the same movie, I decided to see Wanted. The review contains some spoilers so, be advised if you continue reading. Continue reading “Movie Review: Wanted”
I just finished my Spring semester (they are technically quarters, but the school calls them semesters). I really had trouble in my Writing for Multimedia course. I went into the course thinking it would be easy for me, being remotely writing related. But then I chose a subject for my course-long project that just kept growing and requiring more and more work. It was my fault, I let the project control me more than I did it. Continue reading “New Project: Jack and Jill”
I saw Iron Man yesterday at the Regal in Germantown. It was an excellent movie. Admittedly, I was not as familiar with the character as I would be with other comic book characters, such as Batman, for example. So, my impressions of the movie were based on it as a stand-alone project. Continue reading “Movie Review: Iron Man”
I saw the new Indy movie yesterday afternoon at the Regal in Germantown. I went with my family. This review will contain spoilers so be aware of that, if you continue. Continue reading “Movie Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”
I saw the new Narnia movie yesterday evening in a Regal theater in Germantown. Continue reading “Movie Review: Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”
I have seen Speed Racer twice already and love it! The layering effect of in-focus backgrounds and foregrounds is beautiful. The narrative structure that blends flashback and present near-seamlessly, yet understandably is amazing. The moral that people should go out and do their best, and do what they believe right, even in the face of oppressive and world-dominating social forces is admirable. The stunt-racing action sequences are fantastic (cars spin-kicking each other and such); but track design and race sequences are a little reminiscent of the IGPX anime. The movie is faithful to the Speed Racer cartoon of the late 1960s in ways that are important, but diverges in ways that only improve artistic and dramatic value (history of Rex somewhat altered). The retro-futuristic art direction is an inspired means to blend the 1960’s source material with the tech in the gadget-filled stunt-racing vehicles. All this, and appropriate enough for young children. In a word: Awesome!
